Thank you for visiting our blog! Our family has set up this site to simplify the process for keeping everyone updated on Carson's and Kellen's progress, as well as to communicate each day's most urgent prayer requests.
At eight weeks gestation, we found out that, to our great surprise and joy, we were expecting twins! Then at 22 weeks gestation, we learned that one of our sweet boys had developed a rapidly growing cervical teratoma. Under close medical supervision and lots of prayer from loved ones far and wide, we were able to make it to 33 weeks gestation. Our sons were born via cesarean section and the EXIT procedure, on November 8, 2011.
Carson David was born at 9:48 AM, weighed 3 lbs 15 oz, and was 15.5 inches long. Kellen Douglas was born at 9:49 AM, weighed 3 lbs 13 oz, and was 16 inches long. They are identical twins.
Three days later, on November 11, 2011, due to his rapidly deteriorating condition, Carson underwent major surgery to remove the very large and very complex teratoma. He was not expected to make it, and yet, by the grace of God, he did.
Though there have been many close calls post-surgery, Carson continues to recover and improve at a steady pace. And while his brother is busy beating the odds, Kellen is exceeding expectations as well! He is growing and thriving, despite his tiny size and challenging start. And now, as of February, 28, 2012, the boys are both out of the hospital and living at home! We are so very proud of them both!
It has been a great blessing to us to hear how so many have been praying, and continue to pray, for us and for our precious boys. The road has been difficult, but you have eased our journey and blessed us beyond anything we could have imagined. We could never say thank you enough. We pray God blesses you in return!
